In-line citation

[edit]

@Farawayman: Can you add in-line citations for the portion you added please? --Mhhossein talk 04:42, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Citations - Done. I also reverted the addition of the word "failed" in the lead; the same sentance goes on to say that it was an "attempted operation", which implies failure. Farawayman (talk) 10:47, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Farawayman for the citation. For your revert, can you say where exactly it reads "attempted operation"? --Mhhossein talk 02:48, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Operation Eagle Claw, known as Operation Tabas (Persian: عملیات طبس) in Iran,[1] was a United States Armed Forces operation ordered by U.S. President Jimmy Carter to attempt to rescue 52 embassy staff held captive at the Embassy of the United States, Tehran on 24 April 1980." See bold text. Farawayman (talk) 03:07, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So there's no "attempted operation" in the sentence, but "to attempt to rescue". --Mhhossein talk 04:17, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Farawayman: Anyway, I don't think usage of "attempt" necessarily implies "failure" (look for "failed attempt" in Collins dictionary and Cambridge dictionary). Besides, there are many reliable sources describing this event as a "failed operation". --Mhhossein talk 04:36, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The American hostages were released shortly after Reagan's inauguration.

[edit]

Was there an under the table arms deal with Iran or lifting of some sanctions done my Reagan to get the release of the hostages? 2601:646:9B00:EF46:C0A:959B:B317:9FF4 (talk) 02:08, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Who was the Iranian civilian killed?

[edit]

This person is not discussed too much. There was an allegation by an Iranian Ayatollah that there were nine bodies, but he alleged they were American.[1]Speakfor23 (talk) 14:25, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mention Of the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey

[edit]

The failures of Operation Eagle Claw directly lead to the development of the JVX aircraft program, which lead to the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey. There should be some link or even a mention of the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey somewhere in the article. CheeseAuthority (talk) 07:46, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
